Uses electricity and produces 

In the indigenous chicken value chain SIVCAP, inadequate supply of quality chicks was identified as major constraint leading to low productivity. The VCO was lucky to be one of the beneficiaries of ASDSP program, whereby they were trained on a several innovations including; brooding, biosafety and biosecurity measures, timely vaccinations, nutrition and feed formulations, disease control and general poultry management. To address the challenge of inadequate supply of quality chicks, members have taken the initiative by sourcing day old chicks from reputable organization (e.g. Murang’a hatcheries, kuku chick e.t.c) reared and later sell in different categories. With the innovation concept, ASDSP has identified this VCO to be among the beneficiaries of day old chicks and Black Soldier Fly kit, this is anticipated to breach the gap on low quality supply chicks and reduce the high cost of feeds respectively. The service provider attached to this VCO has been already trained on Black Soldier Fly production at KALRO  Ol Joro Orok through the support from ASDSP.
